The Guardian Solar Hotwater Closed Loop System by Leveredge is a solar water heating system designed to accommodate New England climates where freezing weather occurs frequently on a seasonal basis. The same high-tech solar storage tank and the solar collectors do not differ from those utilized in the Guardian direct solar system. The only difference lies in the way that the water is processed through the solar collector and back to the storage tank; your potable water is heated indirectly through a heat exchange coil at the bottom of the tank.

The Guardian closed loop units' automatic solar circulation pump sends a mixture of water and propylene glycol through the solar collector and back to the heat exchange coil. Heat is transferred to your potable water via the exchange coil which is wrapped around the inner collection tank. The Guardian CL system is freeze proof because the solution in the solar loop is an 8:1 ratio of water and propylene glycol (antifreeze). The specially designed system has the ability to utilize its own built in electric heating filament for those times that the solar collector is not able to soak up the sun’s energy.

Guardian Solar Products of New England Closed Loop Solar Schematic

Follow the blue arrows from the bottom of the heat exchange coil as they rise up the solar supply line. This illustrates the path of the freeze proof solution as it circulates through the solar collector(s). As the heated mixture travels through the exchange coil it transfers its heat to your potable water housed in a separate storage tank. The automatic controller powers the circulation pump continuously as long as sun is available to heat the water. The controller will turn off the solar system if no heat is available from the solar collector(s), or if the solar storage tank has reached its high limit shut off temperature. During prolonged periods of inclement weather your internal back-up heating element will take over ensuring you and your family has all the hot water you need. Read ingredients below.

The Guardian Solar of New Englander 80/40 is comprised of an American brand 80 gallon solar hot water tank and one 4’x10’ solar collector.
